My Dearest

Here I am again.  It's so blasted hot that I have a sheet of paper under my right hand and forearm to prevent this sheet I'm writing on from getting soaked from the sweat off my arm.

I had an interesting experience today that I can talk about so here goes.  I was talking to the doctor in sick bay when a young ensign who was visiting one of the patients saw my B'nai B'rith ring.  He asked me what lodge I was a member of and it turned out that he is a Long Beach boy.  He knows many of our friends.  His name is Bill Spitzer and he is acquainted with Herman Stein, Mort Eisner, Bruce Stern, Dave Gindoff and Abe Weinberg.  Isn't this a small world?

Well, my Sweet, the election is over and Roosevelt is still president.  We have a couple of "diehard" Republicans aboard and we've really had quite a time discussing politics and the future of our country.  Personally I am happy about the results and do feel that our country will be better off than if Dewey had been elected.

How is by you?  I haven't received and mail since the last jackpot but I do hope to get another batch tomorrow.  Don't worry about the irregularity of my mail, it just can't be helped.  Anyway when I get back I'll have some interesting stories to tell.

In the meantime, Honey, please be patient.  My love for you is unending and you are in my thoughts always.  Will write again tomorrow.  Until then

Love

Gil

Bruce's Letter

AMERICAN RED CROSS

Monday 20 March 1944, 1545 o'clock

Dearest,

A little breathing spell so here I am again.  Tried to reach Diller twice but no answer at that number.  That was at noon so I'll try again in a few minutes.

Just got another letter from Libby so I sat down and dropped her a line also.

Had a nice workout at noon playing ball.  Don't know what the movie is tonight but if I haven't see it I'll go and turn in early.

Forgot to enclose Bruce's letter so here it is.

Love,

Gil

That"ll Save A Little Gas

AMERICAN RED CROSS

Monday 20 March 1944, 1215 o'clock

Hello My Sweet,

Stopped to see Leon on the way and with the delay I arrived at the base at 1:30.  Deborah is still doctoring.  That's what she wanted to see Leon about--a doctor to go to.

Phoned about our ad but no response as yet.  But then yesterday was the first day.  Got a letter from Bruce Stern which I am enclosing.  Dr. Gilman was tickled pink with our invitation so you can go ahead and make reservations, etc.  By the way, don't plan on riding with Leon if you come to San Diego in three weeks.  He said he probably would be taking someone down with him and I imagine that someone will be a "she."

Had a very busy morning and when 11:30 came, I tore into those sandwiches with a vengeance.  Were they good!

Dave is taking his car down next week so I'll drive to Oceanside and leave the Plymouth there over the weekend.  That'll save a little gas.

After this letter I'll drop a note to Miss Earnest and then go out and play a game of volleyball.

In the meantime my Sweet, keep that smile on your face and a little more hope in your heart.  We'll be together in Diego yet.

A big hug and kiss to all my girls.

Love,

Gil

Wrote Five Letters

Dearest,
Went to the movie tonight and saw "Phantom Lady," an interesting psychological murder story.  Returned to my quarters at 8:30 and wrote a few letters--Ethel and Doc, "Wally," Bruce Stern, the Jaffes and the Lodge.  Five letters in an evening is quite a record for me but I expect to do the same each evening until I'm caught up.
Now that I'm through I sure wish you were here for a little "diddle" or something.  And maybe Linda and Norma would want me to put them to the bed.  Well maybe sooner than I think we'll all be together again.  I hope.  Won't we have fun--you and I and the kids!

Love and kisses,

Gil
