To Linda--You've Learned to Write Very Well

9 May 1945
Dear Linda,
Received you letter today and am answering right away.  I'm glad you had such a nice birthday party.  Mother wrote me all about it and I was truly sorry to miss it. Let's hope that never again will I ever miss any of your birthdays.
How do you like being in the first grade?  You've learned to write very well and I hear you do just as well with your reading.  I really am proud of you.
I know you want to know when I'm coming home, but I really don't know for sure.  However I do think it'll be soon.
Goodbye for now and write soon.
Love,
Daddy
